Kehillah Kedosha: Creating Courageous Communities

So many of our communities - locally, nationally, globally - are experiencing deep division and conflict. As we have encountered threats and dangers over the past year, our instinct has often been to put up fences, draw red lines, and create starker boundaries in order to reclaim a sense of security and safety. Yet these actions are not ones that will help build and nurture the world we all want to live in. In moments of fear and uncertainty, what does it mean to take steps to construct courageous communities? What does a courageous community look like and how might we each take small steps to contribute to such communities?

In this class, we will engage in a deep study of one lengthy and provocative Talmudic text and interweave other teachings that are in conversation with the core questions raised by this central text. Using these teachings, we will challenge ourselves to imagine the components of a courageous community, and we will explore the ways in which we can each help to build them.
