The Peaceful Grandparent Project Partner

Become a Peaceful Grandparent Partner

Becoming an organizational partner with Orot will help you offer an invaluable resource to grandparents in your community, supporting them in their continuous journey of growth, connection, and spiritual enrichment. Participants have shared that the course has helped them enrich and deepen their relationships with their adult children and grandchildren, strengthening their families. Grandparent participants benefit from learning with other grandparents, helping them build relationships with others in similar life stages. This class serves as a building block for long-term engagement between participants and their local community.

Program Impact

  • Learning to see your children and grandchildren through a clear-sighted lens.

  • Learning to listen deeply to your grandchildren and children.

  • Learning to bless the everyday experiences of family and infuse them with sacredness and distinctiveness.

  • Learning to find tranquility and peace within the context of family relationships.

Class Content

Peaceful Grandparent moves through five core themes:

  • Shmiyah (How we Listen)

  • Reiyah ( How we See)

  • Shavat Vayinafash (Building a refuge for our families)

  • Ahava (Activating New Forms of Love)

  • Hitchadshut (Noticing what is new and precious within our family systems)

To cover these themes, each class is a blend of personal reflection, and conversation over texts that range from the Torah to Rabbinic to contemporary Jewish sources. Poetry and music are offered as different ways into the material. Personal reflection encourages grandparents to see their place in their families and this specific time of life as a time with enormous spiritual potential.

How to Partner

Reach out to Orot to schedule a conversation about becoming a partner organization so that we can learn more about your community. In this conversation, we will share information about the fee structure for bringing the program to the grandparents in your community and determine the timeline that works best for your organization.

FAQ

How many people do I need to recruit to fill a cohort?
There is no set minimum or maximum number per cohort. We have found through experience and heard through feedback that 10-15 is a good size to allow for an interactive conversation. We don’t recommend going above 24 screens for a Zoom class, but we can accommodate as needed.

What is the cost to the partner organization?
Please reach out to Amanda for pricing. The partner organization pays one lump sum to Orot and is able to subsidize the class for their community through their own registration systems.

How far in advance do I need to schedule a cohort?
We will always do our best to accommodate based on educator availability but the sooner we get dates locked in, the more likely you are to get the dates that you want for your cohort. We recommend 2-3 months to allow ample time for recruitment.

Are sessions in person or online?
We offer many sessions on Zoom and are able to offer in-person and hybrid sessions in cities where we have local educators.

Where are you based?
We are based in Chicago, IL. We currently have educators in Denver, Minneapolis, and Boca. We are rapidly expanding and hope to have more educators around the country in the near future.

“Having partnered with Orot previously for the Peaceful Parent Project and our Artists Beit Midrash, we were eager to offer the opportunity for our community to participate in the Peaceful Grandparent Project. Twelve students with young grandchildren, including two couples and a set of grandparents-to-be, engaged with traditional Jewish and other texts focusing on the importance of seeing and listening to their grandchildren as well as enhancing their relationships with their adult children. As a grandmother and Jewish educator, Dr. Jane Shapiro brought her own experience and deep understanding of Jewish sources to each session, providing a comfortable space for each participant to share their joys and challenges of grandparenthood. In the words of one student, The class was fantastic!”
