A Year of Personal Prayer

Monday 12- 1pm, begins after High Holidays October 4, 11, 18, 25 Nov 1, 8, 15

This has been a difficult year for people who are accustomed to praying in community. We missed the voices that usually surround our lives and lift us up.

Talmud study, reading poetry, and looking at nature filled some of the void

Some found communities online that sustained them and made them feel they were not alone. But we all had to draw on ourselves just a little more to make our praying lives work.

Perhaps we are at the threshold of new forms of spiritual practice which we can add to our communal experiences. It is a time to look into our sources and explore personal prayer. To accomplish this, I am drawing on a longstanding tradition of Commonplace books.

These are personal collections of texts and poems that are used for contemplation and reflection. The point of the commonplace is to curate things that inspire you and to keep them in one place: a journal, a file on your computer, in a sketchbook.
