The Torah Cycles of Elul/Tishrei: Texts for the Journey

Taught by Jane Shapiro

Mondays:   12-1 pm

August 17, 24, 31 September 14, September 21 & October 5

There is a cumulative cycle of readings which takes us through the month of Elul and on through Holy Tishrei, a journey from Isaiah’s songs of comfort to the special Psalm of the month

back to Abraham, Hagar, Sarah and Isaac, to Hannah, to the wilderness with a Goat and then back again to the march through the desert. Each part of the journey can bring us back to our historical memory and to a deeper awareness of where we have been in the past year and where we hope to be going. We will be parsing and reflecting on this rich collection of works together.
